Bhubaneswar, Jul 25: Vedanta Aluminium Coal Mines has extended nutritional and counselling support to over 180 tuberculosis (TB) patients in Sundargarh district under the Government of India’s Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. The initiative, implemented through the Nikshay Mitra programme, aims to strengthen treatment adherence and improve recovery outcomes for patients.

In Balishankara Block, more than 717 nutrition kits have been distributed alongside regular counselling and awareness sessions. The company said the programme reinforces community healthcare at the grassroots level and reflects its commitment to the national vision of a TB-free India.

Vedanta Aluminium Coal Mines, India’s largest aluminium producer, has already reached 154 beneficiaries during FY26. In recognition of its contribution, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare awarded the company a Certificate of Completion under the TB elimination mission.

Amares Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium Coal Mines, said: “Building healthier communities is integral to creating a sustainable and inclusive future. Through our Nikshay Mitra initiative, we are supporting TB patients with nutritional care, counselling, and encouragement to help them complete their treatment journey.”

Patients have also acknowledged the impact of the initiative. Lusia Tete, a resident of Balishankara Block, said: “The nutritional support and counselling I received helped me remain motivated and complete my treatment. The encouragement from Vedanta Aluminium Coal Mines reminded me that I was not alone in this journey.”

The company’s broader community development programmes around its coal mining operations have reached over two lakh people across 26 villages. These interventions span healthcare, education, livelihoods, infrastructure, and social development, reflecting Vedanta Aluminium’s commitment to inclusive growth and improving lives at the grassroots level.
