Bhubaneswar, Dec 16: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has reaffirmed its commitment to workplace safety by organising the Annual Mines Safety Fortnight (AMSF) from December 2 to 15 at its Jamkhani Coal Mine in Odisha. Conducted in collaboration with the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), the fortnight-long programme witnessed active participation from over 600 employees, business partners, and workmen.

The initiative was held under the theme “Aapka Pariwar Aapka Intezar Kar Raha Hai”, highlighting the importance of safe practices to safeguard lives and families. A wide range of activities were conducted, including safety inspections, quizzes, first-aid demonstrations, mock drills, awareness sessions, Nukkad Natak (street plays), and safety talks. These engagements aimed to instill behavioural change and reinforce Vedanta Aluminium’s Zero Harm philosophy.

A major highlight was the comprehensive safety inspection carried out by an external AMSF team comprising 10 subject experts, including an ISO observer and senior officials from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited. Their evaluation underscored Vedanta Aluminium’s adherence to the highest safety standards across mining operations.

Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, emphasised that safety is a core value for the company. “Our Zero Harm philosophy is about instilling behavioural change, empowering people to make safety a personal responsibility. Initiatives like AMSF create platforms for learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement,” he said.

Tapas Kumar Mohanty, Chief Manager Safety and ISO observer at Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, lauded the company’s efforts, noting that its integration of safety drills, workforce engagement, and structured awareness programmes sets a strong benchmark for the mining industry.

Beyond operational excellence, Vedanta Aluminium continues to invest in community development through initiatives in education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, rural infrastructure, and grassroots sports. With a production of 2.42 million tonnes in FY25, the company manufactures more than half of India’s aluminium and ranks second globally in the S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 for the aluminium sector.

By embedding safety and sustainability into its growth story, Vedanta Aluminium positions itself as a leader in responsible mining and as a driver of India’s vision of aluminium as the “Metal of the Future.”
