Koraput, Nov 25: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has taken a significant step toward improving student health and wellbeing in Odisha by installing 30 water purification units across schools in Kodingamali area in Odisha’s Koraput district, officials said on Tuesday.

 This initiative, part of the company’s flagship Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) programme, benefits more than 3,000 students, ensuring reliable access to clean drinking water in rural educational institutions.

Installation Milestone

The inaugural installation at U.N. Raju Girls’ High School was attended by  Laxmipur MLA Pabitra Saunta, who emphasized the importance of safe water in schools for student health and daily learning.

Advanced Purification Technology

The schools have been equipped with Tata Swach Community Water Purifiers, which use Ultra Hollow Fibre (UHF) ultrafiltration technology to remove harmful pathogens while retaining essential minerals and natural taste. Operating entirely on gravity, the purifiers require no electricity, minimize water wastage, and are ideal for regions with limited infrastructure.

Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO – Vedanta Alumina Business, highlighted that the initiative aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). He noted that strengthening water infrastructure in schools fosters healthier learning environments, enabling students to remain focused and confident.
