Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: Rising to an advisory of the National Human Rights Commission, the Odisha government has directed universities coming under the Higher Education Department to take steps for the safety and security of transgender persons in their respective campuses.
"Educational institutions are requested to protect gender-nonconforming students from bullying harassment or other forms of violence in their respective jurisdictions," read the letter of the HE Department.
The department also suggested that the universities form monitoring committees to address the issues of prejudices, discrimination, sexual abuse, and other violence against transgender persons.

✨The department also advised all educational institutions to take steps for the construction of unisex toilets/restrooms to ensure gender-neutral facilities to concerned persons.
