New Delhi, June 25: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alongside Union Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy and Jual Oram, on Wednesday co-chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi to resolve issues pertaining to the expansion of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Odisha.
In a post on X, Pradhan said, “Expansion of RSP is strategically important for India’s steel sector as well as for industrial and socio-economic development of Odisha and eastern region. The expansion will boost our steel production capacity, strengthen India’s position in the global steel market, reduce imports, cater to the needs of key industrial sectors, catalyse Odisha’s economy, drive growth and create large-scale jobs in steel and allied sectors in line with Primenister Narendra Modi’s vision of Purvodaya.”

Pradhan also expressed gratitude to the Union Steel Minister for agreeing to form a High-powered Committee to resolve bottlenecks and accelerate progress. The expansion, backed by a Rs 30,000 crore investment, aims to double the plant’s capacity to 9 MTPA and generate large-scale employment in Odisha.
