Bhubaneswar, Aug 7: Union Minister for Education and Skill Development, Dharmendra Pradhan, conveyed his heartfelt greetings to the people on the occasion of National Handloom Day.

In a message shared on social media, Pradhan said, "India is home to diverse handloom traditions. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Kutch to Kibithu, each of our weaves is a living testament to our cultural heritage, ethos and diversity. From Sambalpuri to Ikat, Odisha’s handlooms are a treasure trove of traditions and craftsmanship. Salute the craftspeople, artisans and weavers who are working to keep alive our glorious handloom traditions. Let us always wear handlooms with pride today and everyday and also empower artisans who breathe life into every thread."

This year marks the 11th edition of National Handloom Day. The celebration, initiated by the Modi government in 2015, coincides with the anniversary of the Swadeshi Movement’s launch on August 7, 1905.

The 2025 theme, “Handlooms – Empowering Women, Empowering the Nation,” highlights the vital role of women in preserving traditional skills and driving rural economic growth.

Events across the country, including exhibitions, award ceremonies, and cultural programs, are being held to honour the contributions of over 35 lakh artisans.
