Bhubaneswar, Jan 29: Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday lauded Odisha’s effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) and Krishonnati Yojana, noting that the state has emerged as a model in utilizing central funds for agricultural growth, officials said.
Reviewing the schemes in a nationwide video conference with states’ Agriculture Ministers, Chouhan expressed satisfaction over Odisha’s performance and urged the state to continue its momentum in strengthening farmer welfare and food security.
Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo joined the meeting virtually and highlighted Odisha’s achievements. He informed that the state has already utilized 79 per cent of the funds under PM-RKVY and 80 per cent under Krishonnati Yojana. He added that six new projects could be initiated once the remaining allocations are released by the Centre.

✨Officials emphasized that Odisha’s initiatives under these schemes—such as natural farming, crop diversification, and millet promotion—have accelerated agricultural progress and positioned the state as a leader in sustainable practices. PM-RKVY focuses on promoting sustainable agriculture, while Krishonnati Yojana aims at ensuring food security and self-sufficiency.
The review meeting was attended by senior officials from
Odisha, including Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Additional Chief Secretary of the
Agriculture and Farmers' Empowerment Department; Shubham Saxena, Director of
Agriculture; and Ganeshwar Jena, Additional Secretary.

Chouhan’s appreciation comes at a time when Odisha has been actively promoting millet cultivation and crop diversification, aligning with national priorities of resilience and sustainability. The Union Minister stressed that proper investment of funds and continued innovation in farming practices would further strengthen the agricultural sector in the state.
