Cuttack, Dec 25: In a tragic mishap, two minor girls drowned while taking a bath in a pond in Kurunti village of Kuranga Pradhan gram panchayat under Cuttack Sadar police station limits this morning. 

The deceased girls have been identified as Sofia Parbin (10) and Nandini (8).

According to the information, Sofia and Nandini along with another girl, also a minor, had gone to take a bath in the village pond. While Sofia and Nandini drowned in the pond, the third girl ran to inform the villagers. By the time villagers reached the pond, the two had already lost their lives. 

Later, they were pronounced dead at the Mahidharpada Community Health Centre (CHC).    

A pall of gloom has descended on the village following the sorrowful incident.
