Bhubaneswar/Nayagarh, Feb 25: Two persons were killed in two separate incidents of elephant attacks in Odisha today.

In the first case, Babulia Parida (40) of Naramanabi village, under Kunjuri Gram Panchayat in Tangi block, was out of his house to attend nature's call when a wild elephant trampled him to death.

Reportedly, the body of the victim is lying at the spot as forest department officials are yet to reach the spot.

In a second incident in Nayagarh district, one Kalia Maharana (50) was killed near Mayurjhalia Medical in the Ranpur forest range.

According to reports, Kalia was passing through a cashew forest when he confronted with a wild elephant. Unable to escape, Kalia was crushed to death.

Following the tragedy, villagers staged a protest, demanding compensation for the bereaved family and stronger measures to prevent such attacks.

The twin incidents highlight the growing tension between local communities and wildlife in forested regions of Odisha.

Residents have expressed frustration over repeated elephant incursions, urging authorities to take immediate steps to safeguard lives and provide relief to affected families.
