Puri, Apr 11: At least two houses and six shops were reduced to ashes after a major fire broke out at Janhikuda Ghatapentha under Krushnaprasad block in Odisha's Puri district.

Fortunately, no loss of life was reported in the incident as the residents managed get out of the houses as soon as the fire started spreading.

Upon receiving the information, fire tenders were pressed in service to douse the flames. After hours of effort, the blaze was brought under control, said sources. 

The official said that the cause of the fire is currently unknown. However, a case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
