Puri, Oct 6: In a disturbing incident from a village under Balanga police station in Puri district, two men have been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old minor girl and impregnating her.

The accused, identified as Milu Nayak and Radha Govinda Bishoi from Balia village, were taken into custody by Balanga police and produced in court on Sunday.

According to police sources, the accused had repeatedly assaulted the girl by luring her with false promises. The matter came to light when the minor complained of abdominal pain and was taken to a medical facility by her family. Medical tests revealed that she was pregnant, prompting her father to file a written complaint at Balanga police station.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under serious sections including 376/2N of the IPC, Section 6 of the POCSO Act, and Section 72. Balanga IIC Dibya Ranjan Panda led the investigation and successfully apprehended the accused from Bhubaneswar on Saturday night.

On Sunday morning, the accused underwent medical examination, and the minor’s statement was recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC. She has since been shifted to a child welfare home for care and protection.

Police have assured that further investigation is underway and strict legal action will be taken against the perpetrators.
