Twin Low-Pressure Systems to Soak Odisha Through Early July

Key Points

Twin low-pressure systems forming over Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea to trigger widespread rainfall across Odisha.

Orange and Yellow Warnings issued for multiple districts; Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar to receive very heavy rain.

Seasonal rainfall deficit at 3%, with Mayurbhanj recording the highest shortfall.

Bhubaneswar, Jun 28: Odisha is set to experience intense rainfall activity through the first week of July as twin low-pressure systems are expected to form over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The state has already witnessed significant rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Keonjhar recording 106.3 mm and Bhadrak’s Remuna area logging 77 mm.

A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Bangladesh and West Bengal by June 29, which may evolve into a low-pressure area within 24 hours. Simultaneously, another cyclonic system is active over the northeast Arabian Sea, with potential for low-pressure formation near Saurashtra and Kutch.
