Twin Low-Pressure Systems Likely To Develop Over Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal

Key Points

The first system is expected to form over the Arabian Sea, with a cyclonic circulation likely to develop near the Karnataka coast by May 21.

Bhubaneswar, May 19: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the formation of two low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea by the last week of May, potentially affecting weather patterns across multiple states.

The first system is expected to form over the Arabian Sea, with a cyclonic circulation likely to develop near the Karnataka coast by May 21. The IMD indicates that this circulation may intensify into a low-pressure area by May 22, further strengthening as it moves northward.

Meanwhile, another cyclonic circulation could develop over the east-central Bay of Bengal around May 27, gradually transforming into a low-pressure system.

While the impact of these systems is yet to be determined, meteorologists caution that they could lead to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and possible storm development in coastal regions. Given these weather shifts, authorities are closely monitoring their trajectory and intensity.

Odisha, on the other hand, is grappling with intense heatwave conditions. Coastal districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati have been placed under an alert due to extreme temperatures.

The combination of heatwave alerts and upcoming low-pressure systems sets the stage for significant weather changes in the coming weeks.
