Baripada/Suliapada, Jan 16: The 8th edition of the Tusu Festival–2026, organised by the Badasole Village Committee of Suliapada in Mayurbhanj district, was celebrated with great enthusiasm, showcasing the rich folk heritage and community spirit of the region.
Odisha’s Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mahapatra underscored the importance of folk cultural programmes such as Tusu singing in preserving and promoting traditional art, literature, customs, and values. He noted that such events foster harmony and brotherhood while reflecting the unique expressions of local traditions.
The festival, deeply rooted in agrarian and folk practices,
is particularly noted for its emphasis on youth engagement and women’s
empowerment. Traditionally, Tusu songs have provided a platform for women to
articulate social realities, aspirations, and cultural identity. Organisers
highlighted that the event also helps inculcate cultural and social awareness
