Tunnel T-4 Breakthrough Marks a Historic Achievement in Odisha's Rail Infrastructure
Bhubaneswar, Apr 16: A significant milestone has been achieved in the Khordha Road-Balangir New Railway Line Project with the successful breakthrough of Tunnel T-4, the longest rail tunnel in Odisha.
Spanning an impressive 4,185 meters, this engineering marvel is located between Adhenigarh and Charichhak stations in Boudh district. The breakthrough, also known as "daylighting," marks a historic moment for the state and the ambitious railway project.
The Khordha Road-Balangir railway line, with a total length of 301 kilometers, is a transformative infrastructure project aimed at connecting Odisha's coastal regions with its western hinterlands.
Out of the total stretch, 226 kilometers have already been commissioned, linking Khordha Road to Daspalla (Nayagarh district) on one end and Balangir to Purunakatak (Boudh district) on the other. The remaining 75 kilometers, which include seven under-construction tunnels, are progressing steadily.
Tunnel T-4's completion is a testament to the use of cutting-edge technology and innovative engineering methods. The challenging terrain of the Eastern Ghats posed significant obstacles, but the project team successfully navigated these difficulties. The tunnel's construction involved advanced machinery and techniques designed to overcome the rugged and remote landscape.
This breakthrough is expected to accelerate the project's completion, enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth in the region. Once operational, the railway line will facilitate seamless travel, promote regional integration, and unlock new economic opportunities for Odisha's western districts.
The Khordha Road-Balangir railway line is not just a transportation project; it is a symbol of progress and development for Odisha. The successful completion of Tunnel T-4 is a proud moment for the state and a step closer to realizing the vision of a well-connected and prosperous Odisha.
