Jagatsinghpur, Apr 26: A tragic accident occurred during the preparations for a Ramleela performance, where a coconut tree being tied with a rope to a tractor fell unexpectedly. The incident led to the death of one woman while four others sustained critical injuries.

The deceased woman hailed from Samagala village, while the injured individuals were identified as residents of Balarampur.

According to reports, the accident took place late at night while preparations were underway for Hanuman's entry in a play, organised by the locals.

Eyewitnesses reported that the delay in the arrival of an ambulance further escalated tensions at the scene.

Frustrated locals reportedly vandalised the ambulance upon its arrival. The critically injured individuals were initially taken to a community health centre in Kujang and later shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment.

The accident occurred when the coconut tree, being tightened with a rope to the tractor, broke and fell. This unfortunate incident has cast a shadow over the festive preparations for Ramleela.
