Paradip, Sep 8: In a tragic turn of events, the body of a Chinese sailor who went missing after falling into the sea at Paradip Port was recovered on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Zhang Tai, had accidentally fallen into the water while untying the ship’s ladder at the Paradip International Cargo Terminal (PICT) on Friday morning.
The vessel, MV Lucky Dragon, had berthed at the terminal on Wednesday carrying pig iron. After unloading the cargo, the ship was preparing to depart when the incident occurred. As Zhang Tai attempted to release the ship’s ladder, he lost balance and fell into the deep waters.
A Bangladeshi crew member jumped in to rescue Tai but was unsuccessful. The Bangladeshi crew member was later rescued by other crew members.

Following the incident, a massive search operation was launched by a joint team comprising the Indian Coast Guard, NDRF, ODRAF, marine police, CISF, and scuba divers.
Despite their efforts, Tai remained missing until Sunday, when his body was found floating in the sea and recovered by police officials.
Smruti Ranjan Kar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Paradip, confirmed the recovery and stated that the process to repatriate the body to China has begun in coordination with the Ministry of Shipping.
