Cuttack, Apr 9: The lifeless body of a person was recovered from the waters of Jobra Anicut Barrage on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Shyam Sundar Tekriyal, a 63-year-old retired chartered accountant from Cuttack's Jholasahi area.
The fire and rescue team retrieved the body when it was found floating near Gate No. 1. The Jagatpur and Purighat police arrived at the scene and began their investigation.
According to police reports, Tekriyal had been missing since Tuesday. His family had filed a missing person complaint at the local Purighat police station.
Eyewitnesses reported that his son was seen searching for him in the Jagatpur area. Later, a slipper was discovered near the barrage, and by afternoon, a body was spotted floating in the water.
Preliminary observations do not reveal the exact cause of death. The police have sent the body for post-mortem at SCB Medical College and Hospital. Locals speculate accidental drowning or foul play, but clarity awaits further investigation.
