Bhubaneswar, Jul 31: A road accident occurred on Thursday on the Nayapalli overbridge in Bhubaneswar, causing temporary traffic congestion but no reported injuries.
The incident involved a speeding heavy vehicle (highway truck) that rear-ended a car, leading to chaos on the busy stretch.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck was moving at high speed when it collided with the car from behind. Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash, and both vehicles sustained minimal damage. However, the sudden impact and stalled vehicles led to a traffic jam in the area, inconveniencing commuters during peak hours.
The driver of the heavy vehicle reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the truck abandoned on the bridge.

Speaking to ‘Argus News’ the car driver, a middle-aged person, said that none of the vehicles were speeding. According to him, the truck driver, after the accident, told him that he somehow lost control of the truck which led to the collision, adding he fled the scene soon after the conversation. When the car driver was asked whether the truck driver was drunk, the middle-aged person said that he doesn’t know.
Police arrived shortly after and began clearing the site to restore traffic flow. Efforts are underway to identify and locate the absconding driver.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible driving, particularly in urban zones with high commuter density.
