Bhubaneswar, Jun 17: A suspected case of toxic liquor consumption has led to the tragic deaths of two young men in Laxmisagar, sparking outrage among locals.
The deceased, identified as Biswajit Beura, passed away on Tuesday, while his friend had succumbed four days earlier.
According to reports, a group of five friends purchased liquor from a local shop in the Station Bazar area on Cuttack-Puri Road and consumed it together. Soon after, all of them fell seriously ill, with two of them later dying. The incident has raised concerns over the quality and safety of liquor being sold in the area.
Following protests by residents, the Excise Department swiftly sealed the liquor shop and collected samples for testing. Officials have confirmed that a forensic analysis will determine whether the liquor was contaminated. The post-mortem reports of the deceased will provide further clarity on the cause of death.
