Mayurbhanj, Dec 23: Tigress 'Zinnat', brought from Maharashtra to the Simlipal sanctuary in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, has made forest officials sleepless in the last two weeks. After crossing the Jharakhad jungle, Zinnat has now reached West Bengal.


According to the informaiton, Zinnat was marked moving in the forests at Bandawan in Purulia district of West Bengal. The tigress crossed Medinapur's Jhadagram to reach the Bandawan jungle.


"Zinnat has almost crossed 130 km from Odisha. It is moving 25 to 30 km every day. She is seen marching in the morning and resting during the lunch hour. Again, she starts her journey in the evening and rests during the night," according to the GPS Location.


On the night of 8th of this month, Zinnat went from Simlipal and stayed in Rajabasa and Chiyabandhi forests in Jharkhand for 11 days. On the night of the 19th, it crossed the Jharkhand border and entered the Jhargram area of West Bengal. It was first detected in West Midnapore and later in Bandwan in Purulia district on Sunday.

"There is a risk that the tigress can cross the forest and enter human habitation anytime. Efforts are on to tranquilize it and bring it back to Simlipal safely with the help of forest officials of Odisha and West Bengal," said Similipal Range Director Dr Prakash Chand Goginani.


As many as 130 personnel have been deployed to keep an eye on the tigress and protect the people. A high alert is being issued in one area after another in West Bengal due to the fear of Zinnat.
