Puri, Jul 22: In yet another incident of harrsment, three sisters were allegedly harassed by a group of six youths near Kanthapur under Puri Sadar police limits on Monday.
According to reports, the matter came to light after the victims' father lodged a complaint with the local police in this reagrd.
In the complaint, the victims' father stated that around 7 PM, the sisters were heading home from a temple located nearly 2 kilometers from their village when 4 to 5 intoxicated youths on two motorcycles surrounded them on a dark stretch of road. The girls were reportedly subjected to physical misbehaviour, including attempts to snatch a gold chain, a vanity bag, and cash amounting to Rs2,000– Rs3,000.
The situation turned violent when the miscreants allegedly tried to assault them physically.
Alarmed by the screams, local villagers rushed to the spot and managed to catch two of the accused. The others escaped into the darkness.
The detained youths are being questioned by Puri Sadar police and are believed to be residents of Brahmagiri. Reports suggest both were under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
Police have registered a case and launched a probe into the matter.
