Bhubaneswar, Nov 7: In a major medical achievement, doctors at Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, have successfully performed a complex surgery on a three-month-old infant suffering from a congenital heart defect, offering a new lease of life to the child and hope to the family.

The infant was diagnosed with a hole in the heart, a condition that required advanced medical intervention. The family, already struggling with financial constraints, found it difficult to seek treatment at a private super-speciality hospital. In this challenging situation, Capital Hospital emerged as a ray of hope.

After the child was admitted to the hospital, a team of experienced doctors led by Dr P.K. Das undertook the delicate procedure. The surgery lasted for nearly three hours and was successfully completed. Hospital authorities said the infant is now recovering well and is in stable condition.

The successful operation has not only saved the life of a young patient but has also highlighted the growing capabilities of government healthcare institutions in Odisha. The achievement demonstrates that advanced treatment and complex surgeries can be effectively carried out in public hospitals, reducing the need for patients to seek expensive treatment elsewhere.

The child's family expressed immense relief and gratitude towards the medical team, whose expertise and dedication made the life-saving procedure possible.

The success has also generated positive discussion around the quality of healthcare services available at Capital Hospital, which has earned recognition in recent years for conducting several complex medical procedures.

Meanwhile, healthcare services in Odisha are set to receive a further boost. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the addition of 318 postgraduate medical seats across 14 departments in government medical colleges and postgraduate medical institutions in the state.

As part of the expansion, PGIMER and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar will receive 11 additional postgraduate seats.

Officials believe the increase in PG seats will strengthen the state's healthcare system, improve specialist availability and enable more patients to access quality medical treatment within Odisha.
