Dhenkanal, Mar 25: At least three people were killed while another sustained critical injuries in a road mishap near Rekula village under Kamakhyanagar police station in Dhenkanal district.

Among the three deceased persons, Khirod Sahu, an employee of Kamakhyanagar Public Works Division, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The identity of the other two deceased persons is yet to be ascertained.

According to reports, the victims came under the wheels of a Hyva truck engaged in the road construction work.

While the exact reason behind the accident is yet to be ascertained, local residents have blamed the contracting firm involved in the road work.

Angered over the incident, the locals blocked the Kamakhyanagar-Dhenkanal road near Rekula village by burning tyres.

Following the protest, hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded on both sides of the road.

Kamakhyanagar police have reached the spot and are continuing efforts to pacify the locals.
