Tension High At Hi-Tech Hospital Following Dilip's Death

Key Points

Tension ran high on the premises of the Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital here following the death of Dilip Samantraya, who had received severe burn injuries in the oxygen cylinder blast that occurred in the hospital a week back.

Bhubaneswar, Jan 6: Tension ran high on the premises of the Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital here following the death of Dilip Samantraya, who had received severe burn injuries in the oxygen cylinder blast that occurred in the hospital a week back.

While hospital authorities had declared Dilip dead a day after the incident, another victim of the mishap, who was undergoing treatment, yesterday said he was Dilip. However, he succumbed to injuries last night, according to doctors at the hospital.

The deceased person, who was wrongly named Dilip first and handed over to Dilip's family, was Jyoti Ranjan Mallick. So Dilip's family cremated Jyoti Ranjan's body, which was not recognizable due to burn injuries.  This mistake also devastated Dilip's family as his 24-year-old wife committed suicide after being unable to bear the pain of hubby's untimely death.

After Dilip claimed yesterday that he was alive, Jyoti Ranjan's family members sat on a dharna on the hospital premises, demanding his body.

Tension escalated further after Dilip's death.

Family members of Dilip have now alleged that Dilip was killed by the hospital authorities to avoid legal complications.
"Yesterday, hospital authorities said Dilip's condition was good. I talked to Dilip at around 1 pm last night. But we were informed at 3 am that he succumbed to injuries," said Dilip's mother crying.

She said they (hospital authorities) killed her son last night.

Meanwhile, the DCP said the body would be handed over in the presence of the two families (Dilip's and Jyoti Ranjan's) following receipt of the DNA report.
