Bhubaneswar, June 7: The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional centre has issued a yellow warning as temperatures across Odisha are expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days.
Coastal districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati will experience intense heat and humid conditions, creating discomfort, especially during daytime hours.
According to the latest bulletin by the Met office, high atmospheric moisture levels combined with increasing temperatures will make the weather sultry and oppressive.
While temperatures will spike in the coming days, experts do not anticipate any major fluctuations in the overall trend thereafter. However, Odisha’s coastal belt may continue to grapple with heat stress, particularly in urban areas with high concrete density.
Authorities are urging people to remain alert, especially vulnerable groups such as elderly individuals, children, and those with health conditions, as extreme heat can pose serious risks.
Residents are advised to take precautionary measures, such as staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged outdoor exposure, and wearing light-colored clothing to minimize the effects of the heat.
