Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: Odisha is once again in the grip of biting cold as mercury levels have dipped by 3 to 4 degrees in several cities.
The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted that the chill will intensify further in the coming days, with the cold wave likely to continue until January 17.
However, relief may be on the horizon as the influence of western disturbances is expected to raise temperatures from January 18, bringing a break to the prevailing cold spell.
For the next 24 hours, a yellow warning has been issued for eight districts, cautioning residents about severe cold conditions. The districts under alert include Khordha, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda.

✨Authorities have advised people to take necessary precautions, especially during early mornings and late nights when the chill is most intense.
According to the latest data, minimum temperatures recorded in the past 24 hours were: Rourkela at 6.6°C, Jharsuguda at 7.8°C, Keonjhar at 9.4°C, Sambalpur at 11.6°C, Bhubaneswar at 11.8°C, and Hirakud at 12.8°C.
Meteorologists have indicated that no major changes in minimum temperatures are expected over the next three to four days, keeping the cold conditions steady across the state.
The cold wave has already impacted daily life, with early morning fog and biting winds making outdoor activities difficult. Roadside vendors and daily wage workers are struggling to cope with the chill.

days of harsh winter, residents are hopeful that the predicted rise in
temperature from January 18 will bring much-needed relief. Until then, the
yellow alert serves as a reminder to remain cautious and prepared for the
continuing cold wave.
