Koraput, Jul 28: In a deeply disturbing incident from Odisha’s Koraput district, a 15-year-old Class 9 student from Badamathur village under Kumbhugada Panchayat, Bandhugaon block, has been found to be six months pregnant, raising serious concerns about child protection and sexual exploitation in tribal regions.
The girl was previously studying at Kumbhugada Government Upgraded High School, and had enrolled in Bandhugaon Government Higher Secondary School for the 2024–25 academic year.
According to sources, her parents discovered her pregnancy and, fearing social shame, abandoned her at Kupakhala village in the neighbouring Kumbariput Panchayat.

✨The alleged father is a Class 12 second-year student at Kumbariput Government Higher Secondary School. The relationship reportedly developed while both were attending nearby schools. The girl’s age, confirmed via Aadhaar, is 15 years and 3 months, making her a minor under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
District Child Protection Officer Geetanjali Maharana has acknowledged the case and stated that further investigation is underway. However, Bandhugaon police have yet to issue an official statement, sparking criticism over delayed action.
