Puri, Aug 14: The Talcher-Puri MEMU passenger train derailed near Puri railway station on Friday afternoon, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) said.

According to the officials, one wheel of the front trolley of train number 68413 derailed at 1.22 PM as the train was entering platform number 3. Railway staff immediately initiated safety protocols, ensuring all passengers were safely deboarded.

The affected train was rerailed at 3.32 pm, restoring normalcy at the station. ECoR clarified that the derailment had no impact on the movement of other trains, and services continued without disruption.

Officials emphasized that passenger safety remained the top priority, and the swift response by railway staff prevented any untoward incident. The derailment, though minor, highlighted the importance of constant vigilance and preparedness in railway operations.

The East Coast Railway has ordered an inquiry into the cause of the derailment. Technical teams are expected to examine the track and rolling stock to determine whether mechanical issues or track conditions contributed to the incident.
