Bargarh, Nov 18: The selection panel of the world-famous Dhanu Yatra in Odisha’s Bargarh, considered as the world's largest open-air theatre festival, announced veteran artist Sushil Kumar Meher as the new Demon King Kansa for its 78th edition, scheduled to begin here on December 24, 2025.
Selection Process
The auditions were held at the Bargarh Town Hall, where 36 artists competed for the coveted role. Meher’s commanding performance and seasoned acting skills helped him outshine the competition, securing his place as the ruler of Mathura in this year’s theatrical extravaganza.

✨Alongside Kansa, several other key characters have been finalized. Golap Das will portray Mahamantri, while Hemant Pradhan has been selected as Senapati. Roles for Debaki, Narada, Akrura, Chanur, and Mushtik were also confirmed. The announcements were made by Mahendra Mahapatra, Additional District Magistrate and Vice-Chairman of the Dhanu Yatra Committee.
