Bhubaneswar, May 8: Odisha’s Higher Education Minister, Suryabanshi Suraj, has announced that the state will soon begin the recruitment process for Vice-Chancellors and Professors in universities.
His statement follows a landmark Supreme Court ruling, which clarified that previous government policies regarding university appointments were flawed.
The Supreme Court’s verdict has removed legal obstacles, allowing the state to proceed with transparent and merit-based recruitment. Minister Suraj emphasised that past inconsistencies in lecturer and professor appointments have now been rectified, ensuring fairness in the selection process.
The Higher Education Minister criticised the previous administration’s approach, stating that the 2020 policy violated University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations. The Supreme Court’s ruling has now confirmed that the former government’s decisions were legally incorrect, leading to necessary reforms.
With the legal barriers lifted, the Odisha government is fully prepared to initiate the recruitment process. Suryabanshi Suraj assured that both Vice-Chancellor and Professor appointments will move forward simultaneously, streamlining the hiring process.
Additionally, he highlighted that the state government’s recent ordinance aligns with UGC guidelines, ensuring compliance with national education standards.
The recruitment drive is expected to enhance the quality of higher education in Odisha, fostering academic excellence and institutional growth.
