Subhadra Portal Glitch: 1700 Women Lose Benefits Over e-KYC Errors

Key Points
Over 1,700 women across Odisha wrongly marked as deceased in Subhadra Portal.
Financial aid halted due to e-KYC errors; complaints yield no immediate results.
Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: A major technical flaw in Odisha’s Subhadra Portal has come to light, where hundreds of eligible women beneficiaries have been wrongly marked as deceased, resulting in the suspension of their financial assistance under the Subhadra scheme.
In Puri district alone, 226 women have been affected, while across the state, the number exceeds 1,700. Among the victims are Mamina Pujari from Hatia village in Brahmagiri block and Narmada Parida from Handiali village in Gadarodanga Panchayat. Both women had received the first installment of Subhadra funds but were denied the second due to being falsely listed as deceased in the portal.
Despite filing complaints at the Subhadra help desk, the women received no resolution. The issue reportedly stems from errors during the e-KYC verification process, which led to the wrongful classification of living beneficiaries as dead.

✨Deputy Chief Minister Prabhati Parida acknowledged the issue and assured corrective action. “After thorough verification, all eligible beneficiaries will receive their pending installments. From August 15, Anganwadi workers will conduct door-to-door surveys to identify and rectify such errors,” she stated.
The glitch has sparked widespread concern, especially in blocks like Satyabadi (31 cases) and Brahmagiri (24 cases), where many women have been unjustly excluded. The incident has raised questions about the reliability of digital governance systems and the need for robust verification mechanisms.
The Subhadra scheme, aimed at empowering women through direct financial support, now faces credibility challenges. Citizens and activists are urging the government to expedite the correction process and ensure that no deserving beneficiary is left behind due to technical lapses.
