Bhubaneswar, Aug 3: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed profound grief over the tragic death of six migrant workers from Odisha in a devastating stone quarry accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district.
The incident occurred during quarrying operations where a massive rock collapse buried the workers under debris.
The deceased hailed from Ganjam and Gajapati districts and had migrated to Andhra Pradesh in search of livelihood. Among them were Bhaskar Bishoyi and Tukuna Dalai from Alara village, whose deaths have plunged their community into mourning.
“The Chief Minister expressed profound sorrow upon learning the heartbreaking accident in Andhra Pradesh where Danda Badatya, Banamala Chehra, Bhaskar Bisoi and Santosh Gouda from Ganjam district, and Takun Dalai and Musa Jan of Gajapati district lost their lives. The Chief Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. He also announced an assistance of ₹4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to be provided to the next of kin of each victim,” tweeted the CMO.
According to reports, 15–20 workers were present at the site when the rockslide occurred. The victims were engaged in routine mining work when the boulders gave way, trapping several under the debris. Rescue operations were swiftly launched by local police and revenue officials.
