Puri, May 26: Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly’s elder brother, Snehasish Ganguly, and sister-in-law, Arpita Ganguly, had a narrow escape after their speedboat capsized in deep waters at Puri beach.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday evening near the stretch opposite Hotel Sonar Bangla, close to the Lighthouse area.

Reportedly, the couple along with some other were enjoying water sports when a large wave hit the boat, causing it to lose balance and flip over.

Panic ensued as the occupants struggled to regain control in the water. Fortunately, private lifeguards stationed at the beach acted swiftly, rescuing all four passengers safely.

Initial reports suggest that the speedboat was operated by untrained staff, and the adventure company allegedly ignored essential safety protocols. It is also suspected that the company was operating without prior permission from the Puri district administration.

Authorities have acknowledged the incident, however an official statement regarding the incident is still awaited.
