Sonepur, Mar 11: A man was allegedly thrashed to death over water dispute at Lupursingha village under Lachhipur police limits in Sonepur district.
The deceased has been identified as Kartika Bariha.
According to reports, the incident occurred when Kartika tried to draw water from the canal for irrigation purpose. The situation turned ugly after an argument broke out between the two over the land owner's refusal, following which they allegedly beat Kartika, resulting his death on the spot. Later, they disposed the body in the canal and fled the spot.
On being informed, police reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.
A case was registered and three persons have been taken into custody for further investigation.
