Bhubaneswar, Aug 30: In a startling incident in Bhubaneswar’s Chandrasekharpur area, a man discovered a snake inside the dicky of his scooter, sending shockwaves through the locality.

Sujit Giri, a resident of Chandrasekharpur, had parked his scooter near a medicine shop at Rajmahal Square to purchase medicines. Upon returning, he opened the dicky to place the medicines inside — only to be horrified by the sight of a snake coiled within. Startled, Sujit dropped the seat cover in panic and immediately locked the compartment to prevent the snake from escaping.

He then contacted the Snake Helpline for assistance. Responding swiftly, snake rescuer Ashish Behera arrived at the scene and carefully opened the seat. To his surprise, the snake was found pinned under the seat, having been accidentally pressed when Sujit dropped it in fear.

The snake, identified as a non-venomous dhamana (Indian rat snake), measured approximately 1.5 feet in length. Fortunately, it had sustained no serious injuries despite being trapped under the seat. Ashish safely rescued the reptile and later released it into a natural habitat outside the city.

The incident has raised concerns about the presence of snakes in urban areas, especially during the monsoon season when reptiles often seek shelter in warm, enclosed spaces like vehicles.
