Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: Odisha badminton star, Swetaparna Panda, has been conferred with the prestigious 33rd Ekalabya Award, instituted by IMFA’s IMPaCT.
Recognized as one of the most promising talents in Indian badminton, Panda received a cash prize of ₹7 lakh for her outstanding performances at the national and international levels.
The award ceremony, held in Bhubaneswar, celebrated not only
Panda’s achievements but also honoured two other young athletes as runners-up. Preetismita
Bhoi, a weightlifter, and Ahana, a tennis player, were felicitated for their
remarkable contributions to sports. Each runner-up was awarded a cash prize of
₹1.5 lakh.

The event was graced by several dignitaries. Advocate General Pitambar Acharya attended as the chief guest, while Chief Minister’s advisor Prakash Mishra joined as the guest of honour.

The Ekalabya Award Committee 2025 was chaired by IMPaCT trustee and Member of Parliament Baijayant Panda, who was present along with other jury members. Trustee Paramita Panda extended her gratitude, marking the conclusion of the ceremony. The programme was coordinated by Ashwini Prasad Mohanty, Corporate Business Head of IMFA.
Established in 1993 by IMFA, the Ekalabya Award has grown into one of the most prestigious sports honours in the state. Over the years, it has recognized numerous athletes who have gone on to achieve national and international acclaim. The award symbolizes excellence and commitment in sports.
