Key Points

Ornament transfer from temporary chamber to Ratna Bhandar begins in Puri.

Entire process conducted under SOP with video documentation and security.

Temple closed to devotees during transfer; forces deployed for safety.

Puri, Sep 23: The process of transferring ornaments to the Puri Ratna Bhandar commenced under tight security and strict protocols.

The revered Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri was closed to devotees at 9:45 am after a thorough cleaning, and authorized committee members entered the sanctum at 10 am to initiate the transfer.

The operation is being conducted in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) laid out by the Odisha government. The temple’s inner sanctum was illuminated temporarily by the ODRAF team to facilitate the process. Metal detectors and fire safety officials were deployed, and committee members were screened before entering through the Beherana Dwara.

The Ratna Bhandar was unlocked in the presence of a magistrate, with the keys brought from the treasury by the Niti Prashasaka. Representatives of the Gajapati Maharaja and the Bhandar Mekap were present during the opening. Seven Godrej safes from the Khatashej and Changda rooms were shifted first, followed by the Sindhuk and trunks from the outer treasury.

Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan confirmed that the entire process is being video-recorded to ensure transparency and prevent any discrepancies. He emphasized that the transfer is being carried out in a completely secure manner, with full adherence to the SOP.

To maintain order and security, four striking forces and thirteen section forces have been deployed inside and outside the temple premises. Devotees have cooperated with the temporary suspension of darshan during the transfer.

The counting and verification of ornaments will begin soon, based on decisions made by the Ratna Bhandar Committee and the High-Power Committee. With the Kartika month rituals approaching, discussions have already begun between temple administrators and servitors to ensure smooth proceedings.
