Angul, Apr 17: In a significant step towards wildlife conservation, seven adult gharials were released into the Satkosia Gorge of the Mahanadi River.
The release was conducted in the presence of the Chief Wildlife Warden of Odisha, who was on a two-day visit to Satkosia to review various conservation activities.
This initiative is part of the gharial rehabilitation program, aimed at boosting the population of this critically endangered species.
The released gharials include five females and two males. While five of them were brought from Nandankanan Zoological Park, the remaining two were from the Satkosia Tikarpada Gharial Research and Conservation Unit.
The release took place at Mahanadi River’s Sunakhania Ghat under Satkosia wildlife division, marking a significant milestone in the state's efforts to protect and restore gharial populations.
