Kataka, Sep 20: Police arrested Circle Jail, prison senior superintendent Sujit Kumar Roul in connection with the Choudwar jailbreak case, after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the court and interim protection was withdrawn.
Roul had allegedly remained absent from duty without authorisation on the night two under-trial prisoners escaped from the jail. He is also accused of forging the signature of former jailor Santoshini Dash in the prison minute book and preparing fabricated documents to shift responsibility following the jailbreak.
Arrest Follows Rejection Of Bail Plea
Choudwar Police took action against Roul after the court rejected his anticipatory bail application and his interim protection came to an end.
The allegations against him include unauthorised absence on the day of the jailbreak and alleged manipulation of official prison records.
Roul had allegedly remained absent from duty without authorisation on the night two under-trial prisoners escaped from the jail. He is also accused of forging the signature of former jailor Santoshini Dash in the prison minute book and preparing fabricated documents to shift responsibility following the jailbreak.

Former jailor Santoshini Dash had earlier filed a complaint seeking registration of an FIR against Roul. The complaint was submitted through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) portal of Odisha Police.
Former Jailor Alleges Record Tampering
In her complaint, Dash alleged that Roul remained absent without authorisation and reported for duty only after the jailbreak.
She alleged that the official gate in-out register of Circle Jail, Kataka, for October 1, 2 and 3, 2025, was deliberately tampered with to show Roul’s continuous presence inside the jail during official duty hours.
Dash further alleged that after the escape of two under-trial prisoners, Roul forged her signature in the prison minute book on October 2 without her knowledge or consent.
According to her complaint, the alleged act was intended to fabricate evidence, mislead authorities and shift responsibility for the incident.
She had urged police to seize and preserve the original gate in-out register, the senior superintendent’s minute book and CCTV footage from the relevant dates. She also sought forensic examination of the signature allegedly forged in her name.

The jailbreak took place on the night of October 2, 2025, when Durga Puja celebrations were underway.
Two under-trial prisoners, Raja Sahani and Madhukant Kumar, allegedly escaped after cutting the iron rods of their cells and scaling two walls of the prison.
Both are Bihar-based accused described in the case as hardcore criminals and remain absconding.

Following the jailbreak, Dash was charged with dereliction of duty and transferred on administrative grounds based on the findings of a departmental inquiry.
Her subsequent complaint against Roul alleged that official records had been manipulated and that her signature was forged to shift responsibility for the incident.
