Puri, Dec 26: The Odisha Police has drawn up elaborate arrangements to ensure the safe and orderly observance of New Year 2026 in Puri, with special focus on Shree Jagannath Temple and the sea beach areas, police said on Friday.
DIG, Central Range, Dr. Satyajit Naik conducted a review meeting with senior police officers of Puri district to finalize security, traffic, crowd management, and emergency preparedness measures for December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026. With an estimated 3.5 to 4 lakh devotees expected to visit Shree Jagannath Temple, authorities have put in place a robust deployment plan.
Security Deployment
A total of 60 platoons of police personnel, supported by 10 additional SPs, 33 DSPs, 62 inspectors, and 245 sub-inspectors, will be on duty to manage crowds. Specialized units including lifeguards, ODRAF, and STF have also been mobilized to handle emergencies.

✨CCTV surveillance and control rooms will remain operational from December 29 to January 1, ensuring real-time monitoring of temple premises, beach areas, and traffic points. Barricades and public address systems have been installed to regulate temple entry and streamline crowd movement.

Traffic and parking plans have been drawn up with multiple designated parking locations and contingency arrangements. Preventive measures include strict action under the National Security Act (NSA) against antisocial elements and seizure of contraband.

Meanwhile, the Odisha Police appealed to devotees, tourists, and residents to cooperate with authorities, follow advisories, and celebrate responsibly. “Safety and security are our top priority,” officials emphasized.
The comprehensive arrangements reflect the administration’s commitment to ensuring that New Year festivities in Puri remain peaceful, organized, and secure for all visitors.
