Puri, Aug 5: In a serious breach of temple security, a man from Gujarat was apprehended at the sacred Jagannath Temple in Puri for allegedly attempting to record visuals using a hidden spy camera embedded in his spectacles.

The accused, identified as Bipul Patel, a 55-year-old resident of Surat, was intercepted by temple security near the Kirtana Chakada area after his suspicious behaviour drew attention.

Upon inspection, authorities discovered a miniature camera concealed within his glasses, reportedly connected to a smartphone kept in his hotel room.

Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the 12th-century shrine, which is considered one of the holiest sites in Hinduism.

Patel was immediately handed over to the Singhadwar Police, and a case was registered under Temple Act Sections 30A and 4C.

During interrogation, Patel revealed he had been staying in Puri since August 3. Police raided his hotel and seized the mobile phone linked to the spy device. Investigators are now probing his motives and whether others were involved in the act.

This incident follows a similar case just days earlier, where another individual was caught attempting to record inside the temple using smart glasses.
