Puri, Dec 29: As the calendar turns to welcome the New Year 2026, Puri has once again emerged as the foremost destination for devotees, pilgrims, and tourists.
The holy town, home to the revered Shree Jagannath Temple and the golden beach, is witnessing a surge in footfall as people arrive to bid farewell to the old year and usher in the new one with divine blessings and seaside celebrations.
Over the past few days, heavy crowds have already been
observed at the temple and surrounding areas. Despite the biting cold, devotees
are thronging the temple early in the morning to catch a glimpse of Lord
Jagannath. The festive atmosphere is palpable, with both spiritual seekers and
tourists blending together in the vibrant energy of the city.

Anticipating the massive influx of visitors during the New Year, authorities have put in place stringent security measures.

Around 60 platoons of police force will be deployed across Puri to ensure safety and smooth crowd management. Barricades have been set up from Nayak Plaza to regulate the flow of devotees.
In a key decision, entry into the Jagannath Temple will be allowed only through the Singhadwar (Lion Gate), while the other three gates will be used exclusively for exit. This arrangement aims to streamline movement and prevent congestion during peak hours.
The administration has also emphasized the importance of maintaining order and providing a safe environment for devotees and tourists alike. Ambulances and emergency services are being stationed nearby as precautionary measures.

excitement, Puri is set to welcome thousands of visitors who will mark the
