Baripada/Bhadrak, Sept 1: Educational institutions have been closed in several flood-affected areas of Mayurbhanj and Bhadrak districts on Monday as incessant rainfall and rising river levels disrupted normal life.
In Mayurbhanj, all educational institutions from Anganwadi centres to Class-XII have been closed in Betnoti, Badasahi, Kuliana and Bisoi blocks in view of the prevailing flood situation.
The administration has also authorised Block Education Officers (BEOs) in various blocks under the Rairangpur subdivision to take decisions on school closures based on the local flood and rainfall situation.
Flood Situation Worsens In Mayurbhanj
Continued rainfall has triggered flooding in the Budhabalanga River and several other rivers and streams in Mayurbhanj, affecting low-lying areas.

Floodwater has reportedly surrounded residents in Wards 7, 8 and 9 of Baripada town. The administration has been shifting people from low-lying areas to cyclone shelters since Monday.
Rain continued through Monday night, with several villages in Betnoti and Badasahi blocks inundated and road connectivity disrupted at multiple locations.
Connectivity between Badasahi and Betnoti has been disrupted at Belpal and Ghusuria. Floodwater has also reached the Manatri-Baisinga-Nakhara bridge.
The Budhabalanga River has reached the danger level at Podastia.
Classes Suspended Across Badasahi Block
As a precautionary measure, classroom teaching has been suspended on September 1 in all government, aided and private primary, upper-primary, secondary and higher-secondary schools under Badasahi block.
However, the suspension applies to students only. All headmasters and teaching staff have been directed to remain present at their respective schools.

However, the suspension applies to students only. All headmasters and teaching staff have been directed to remain present at their respective schools.
School buildings may be used as temporary flood shelters in case of an emergency. Headmasters of 38 designated schools in Badasahi block have been instructed to remain alert and prepared for such a situation.
Nodal officers have also been assigned to various panchayats to monitor relief, rehabilitation and drinking water arrangements.

Baitarani Rises Near Danger Mark
The water level of the Baitarani River has risen amid continued rainfall in its upper catchment areas under the influence of a low-pressure system.
The river was flowing at 18.20 metres near the Akhuapada anicut, above the warning level of 17.83 metres and close to the danger mark of 18.33 metres.
10 Schools Closed In Bhadrak
In Bhadrak district, 10 schools in Tihidi and Chandbali blocks have also been closed on September 1 due to the flood situation.
The district administration ordered the closure as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.
Authorities in both districts have urged residents to remain alert and avoid visiting rivers and flood-affected areas.
Nodal officers have also been assigned to various panchayats to monitor relief, rehabilitation and drinking water arrangements.
