Baliguda, July 28: A major tragedy was averted when the entire roof of a school collapsed. The incident was reported at Nadapatanga Upper Primary School in Baliguda block of Kandhamal district.

According to reports, around 77 students were present at the time of the incident. However, they all escaped unhurt.

Locals say the building had long been in a dilapidated state, with classrooms unfit for learning and posing serious safety risks.

Villagers claimed that they had reportedly filed multiple complaints with education officials and the Block Development Officer (BDO), but no action was taken.

Despite 24 years of BJD governance and repeated claims of school development through five key initiatives, the condition of many government schools in Odisha remains dire.
