Sambalpur, Apr 15: A new cultural landmark has been unveiled in Odisha with the inauguration of the Veer Surendra Sai Museum at Dalaipara, Sambalpur.

Union Education Minister and Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the museum during his two-day visit to the region, describing it as a tribute to the legendary freedom fighter’s courage, resilience, and valour.

“The museum will inspire future generations to learn about their heritage and history,” emphasized the Union Minister.

Constructed through the joint efforts of the Odisha government’s Department of Culture and Tourism, the district administration, and INTACH, the museum showcases rare photographs, artifacts, and artistic depictions of Surendra Sai’s life and the broader cultural legacy of Sambalpur.

“Archaeological evidence, including cave paintings and rock art, suggests Sambalpur’s history stretches back over 10,000 years,” noted Union Minister Pradhan.

He highlighted the area’s unique identity shaped by its forests, agriculture, folk traditions, and the revered shrine of Maa Samaleswari. He further pledged to integrate local heroes’ stories into the National Education Policy framework to ensure their legacy reaches across India.

The Union Education Minister invited students and youth to visit the museum, stressing its role in fostering pride and awareness of Sambalpur’s cultural richness.

Dharmendra Pradhan also discussed with district officials the establishment of a new Art, Music, and Craft College in Sambalpur, aimed at nurturing local talent.

Additionally, he urged the speedy completion of an auditorium for artists and promised greater recognition for Sambalpur’s famed folk traditions such as Panchabadiya, Dalkhai, and Rangabati.

The inauguration marks a significant step in preserving Sambalpur’s heritage while providing a platform for cultural expression.
