Sambalpur, Dec 24: A farmer reportedly consumed poison in an attempt to commit suicide under mental stress caused by crop loss on his land at Katarkela village under Jamankira block in Sambalpur district today.

The farmer, Birabal Das, was first rushed to the Kuchinda hospital. However, she was shifted to the Veer Surendra Sai Medical College and Hospital after his condition worsened. He is undergoing treatment now. 

According to information, Birbal had undertaken paddy cultivation on an acre of land. But to his bad luck, elephants coming from the nearby jungle ate up paddy plants on his land. As he had incurred a loan, he was under stress. He consumed poison in an attempt to commit suicide.
