Puri, June 5: The sacred Rajendra Abhisheka ritual of Lord Jagannath is set to take place at Puri Shreemandir today after the evening puja.

The Rajendra Abhishek ritual in Puri's Shree Jagannath Temple is a significant event performed on the 10th day of the waning phase of the moon (Jyestha Shukla Pakhya Dasami Tithi). This ritual involves a special bath for Lord Madana Mohana, followed by offering him Sitala bhoga and kheer.

The temple gates will be closed, and darkness will be maintained inside Jagamohan as the ceremony progresses. Following this, Madan Mohan’s chariot will be adorned, and the Rukmini Vivah proposal will be presented as per tradition.

After completing the ritual, Madan Mohan will take a grand procession around the temple premises in a decorated chariot, accompanied by bells, umbrellas, musical instruments, and temple servitors.

Tomorrow, on the auspicious Ekadashi tithi, the Rukmini Vivah festival will be celebrated following traditional rites.

Meanwhile, as Rath Yatra approaches, chariot construction work is progressing rapidly.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi is scheduled to visit Puri today, arriving via helicopter at the Talabania helipad before heading to Srimandir.

After seeking Lord Jagannath’s blessings, he will inspect the Rath Khala (chariot construction site) and oversee ongoing preparations.

Currently, 42 wheels and 21 akha deira (wooden beams) have been completed. The assembly of the chariot components for the Taladhwaja, Debadalana, and Nandighosha chariots has been finalized. Further reinforcement of the chariot structures will be carried out soon, ensuring their readiness for the grand Rath Yatra procession.
