Puri, May 18: The sacred Maha Snana (Grand Ritual Bath) of Lord Jagannath commenced at Puri Shreemandir today. As part of this significant tradition, temple doors were closed for devotees for approximately for an hour.
The ritual is being performed near Bhitarakatha, following the customary purification process. After completing the prescribed Avakash Niti (Resting Ritual), the deities undergo the Maha Snana as part of their purification.
Following the conclusion of this sacred bathing ceremony, the temple authorities will restore normal darshan arrangements for devotees.
Maha Snana is a deeply significant purification ritual performed when the sanctity of the temple is considered compromised. During this rite, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Maa Subhadra are ritually cleansed to restore spiritual purity.
Notably, during these proceedings, public darshan remains suspended. This act is deeply rooted in the temple's heritage, highlighting the unwavering dedication to maintaining its sanctity.
