✨In view of the emerging flood threat, the Ganjam Collector held an emergency review meeting late Wednesday night and directed local officials, including the Purushottampur Tehsildar, to shift residents from low-lying areas to safer shelters and intensify public awareness measures.
Heavy rainfall continues across several parts of the district, causing water levels in the Ghodahada, Padma, Jarau, Dhanei and Rushikulya rivers to rise steadily. Large tracts of paddy fields have been submerged, raising concerns about crop losses.
The situation is particularly severe near Palaspur under Sanakhemundi block, where nearly eight feet of floodwater is flowing over the Ghodahada Bridge. As a result, National Highway 326, which connects Asika and Digapahandi, has been cut off.
Vehicles remain stranded on both sides of the bridge, while police and local authorities have erected barricades and advised people to stay away from the flooded stretch.
To strengthen emergency response measures, Odisha Fire and Emergency Services has deployed 25 additional rescue teams from other districts to Ganjam as water levels continue to rise.
Meanwhile, a rescue operation is underway in Ward No. 28 of Brahmapur Municipal Corporation after a sudden rise in the Sapua River stranded several residents.
Fire personnel from Konisi Fire Station launched an
immediate operation and have safely evacuated around 10 people in two trips.
